Critique Evening 28th September 2010

Andrew is a member of the Camera Club. His sister Kate is an artist, teacher, and quilt-maker. This evening will explore the different viewpoints with reference to images brought in by members.

Photo judges tend to comment on:

  • Focus
  • Exposure
  • Rule of thirds
  • Level horizon

Artists are more likely to be thinking about:

  • Line
  • Tone
  • Colour
  • Pattern
  • Texture
  • Shape
  • Form
  • Space

Please try to bring some prints of pictures you have taken. It helps if they are mounted as that makes them easier to hold up, but this is not essential.

To get things started, here are two pictures to think about. They are similar in technical terms, but one is art and the other is not. Why?

Art or not?
