How to submit an image for critique
New to TWiki?
If you have not added pages to this site before, please try this out in
the
Playpen before you do it on the real
Critique Page
Preparation
First, resize your image to a maximum of 700 pixels across and 600 pixels high.
Save it in JPEG format on your computer.
Add your image to the critique list
Go to the main
Critique page and click the
Edit link in the menu.
You may be asked for your
WikiName and password at this point.
Scroll down to find the list of images submitted for critique, and add a new line
to the top of the list. It should look something like this:
* [[CritSubmergedLogs][Submerged Logs]] by Michael Flanders
The line starts with three spaces and a star.
The 'word' inside the first set of square brackets will be the
WikiName of your new page.
It must start with a capital letter, then have one or more small letters and another capital.
Every page on the site must have a different WikiName.
The second set of square brackets contains the title that will appear on the page.
Click the
Save Changes button when you have done this.
You will see that your new page is in the list but it is highlighted in yellow.
This is because the page does not exist yet, so now you need to create it.
Create the page
Click the question-mark at the end of the yellow highlight.
You are now editing your new page.
Replace the text on the first line with the title of your image.
Delete the text relating to the Gallery feature.
Leave the rest of the text in place, particularly the bit about the comment box.
Click on
Save Changes.
Prepare your image
Resize your image to limits of 700 pixels wide, by 600 pixels high and set the density to 100 ppi or 72 ppi.
If you are not sure how to do this, there is a
useful tutorial
(The reason for resizing is to keep the file sizes and so the upload and download times within reason. It also fits neatly on to most people's browsers.)
Upload your image
Click on
Add a Picture in the menu on the left-hand side.
Click the
Browse button and select the image file that you saved earlier.
Put the title of the image in the Comment box.
Click the
Upload file button.
The file will be sent and it will appear at the bottom of the page.
Tidy the page
Your picture will have appeared right at the bottom of the page - below the comments box.
This is not ideal, so click
Edit again in the menu.
Scroll to the bottom of the text (it is probably only a few lines anyway).
You will find some text that looks a bit like this:
<img src="%ATTACHURLPATH%/SubmergedLogs.jpg" alt="Submerged Logs"
title="Submerged Logs" width="600" height="450" />
This is what causes your image to be displayed.
Move that text up to just under the title line at the top of the page.
If you like, you can add some text under the image to say what you want help with,
or to describe the image.
Click the
Save Changes button.
If the page looks OK, you have finished the job and you just need to wait for one of our volunteers to write some comments. If you are particularly impatient, you can tick the
Release edit lock box before saving changes (if you do not do this then only you can edit the page for the next hour).
If you do not like the look of the page, you can edit it again or even upload a new copy of the image. Note that if you change the image size you should either change the filename or you should delete the
<img src... text before uploading the new version.
