General Information
File Naming
The latest version of the PhotoComp software has automated importing of entries. For this to work please stick closely to the following examples for file naming.
- General pdi Competitions:
- George Blair-Development-Early mornings.jpg
- Dean Feltimo-Advanced-Bright Eyes.jpg
- Annual pdi Competitions:
- Susan Smith-Landscape-Ben Nevis.jpg
- Jane Smith-Natural History-Chacma Babbon.jpg
- General and Annual PRINT Competitions * Print-Name1 Name2-class-title1 title etc.jpg
- If you insert your title in UPPER CASE it will be read out at judging time.
Notes:
- Note no spaces around the dash (minus) signs.
- For your name use first name, single space then surname (leading capitals). If you abbreviate a name (e.g David to Dave) please be consistent from one competition to the next! (if in doubt see the results page on the website to see what you used last time).
- The title/description will be exactly the text between the second dash and the final '.' before the file extension (the title may include further '-' and '.' characters).
If at all possible please enter via email !
Send your entries to:
digicomp@maidenhead.cc
- Entering via email will greatly ease the burden on the Competition Secretary.
- JPEG's are advisable to minimise transfer time.
- Put the competition name and competition date in the Subject line of the e-mail please
- If you do not have internet connection then a file on a USB drive or CD should be handed into Patrick White
- All entries must be received no less than 7 days before the competition date
- Late entries will not be accepted
Image formats accepted:
- JPEG (.jpg) or TIFF (.tif).
Additional Information
The Projector format is 1400x1050 pixels.
The program we use for our competitions is PhotoCompViewer (see
http://www.photocompviewer.co.uk for more information). This program will automatically resize pictures to the display resolution using BiCubic interpolation. It is advisable that images are not too big, to minimise load time (keeping to 1.5 to 3 megapixels is good practice).
If you want to be in full control so that your images are displayed without any interpolation then resize your pictures so that:
- No dimension exceeds the projector format
- One dimension matches the projector format exactly (both will match in the case of a horizontal image with a 4:3 aspect)
The competition software will automatically fill any unused area with black.
The competition software now supports colour profiles, and it works correctly for sRGB and Adobe 1998. For images with no embedded profile, sRGB is assumed. Please check with Mark Russell if you wish to use any other profiles.
(These instructions get revised from time to time. Please check this page before entering.)
