End of Season Walk - 29th May 2007

We met at the Dew Drop Inn at the southern end of Hurley village, just off Honey Lane. Our route took us up through Ashley Hill Forest up to Keepers Cottage then down through farmland towards Warren Row before heading back to the Dew Drop Inn via Pudding Hill.- Ed Doughty

I have been talked into getting some of my photos of the walk onto the webpage by Dave and Ed. I don't know what they were up to but they returned to the Pub much later than the rest of us, some of the other members were even concerned for their well being! Dave getting stung by the nettles served him right for subjecting us all to his bare legs. - June Lancaster

With this walk coming the day after a very wet and miserable Bank Holiday weekend we were very fortunate to be blessed with great walking weather. When I turned up at the walk, I was surprised to find that I was the only one out of the twelve of us wearing shorts on a very warm night. The reason why this was so, soon became apparent as we went walking through paths lined on either side by stinging nettles! Even with Doctor Doughty finding me a dock leaf to rub on my legs, they still hurt like billyo, but needless to say there was no sympathy coming my way whatsoever.

Another lesson learnt was that if you stay out late taking pictures of the sun setting, remember to take a torch, as, trying to find your way along paths back to the pub in the dark woods, is not such a bright idea. All in all a lovely evening stroll with a few photo oppurtunities thrown in for good measure. What more could you ask for? - Dave Mundy
