'Short Stories' in the Programme for 1st June 2010!

This is an opportunity to tell a five-minute short story based on a sequence of not more than fifteen images taken by the photographer / narrator. The subject is open, and the style of presentation is up to the presenter. Imagination and creativity are encouraged.

Each story sequence will be set up on the projector, and the presenter will have a hand-held gadget to step through the slides. There will be some sort of not-too-serious five minute timer, but seriously over-running the five minutes may cost marks! New members of the Camera Club will receive special sympathy and consideration.

This is a light-hearted, judged-by-the-members competition open to all members of the Camera Club. Apart from being fun and entertainment for the members, it is also excellent practice in presenting a sequence of photographic images on a theme. This is a valuable skill when it comes to doing full scale shows. (It is good fun for the competitors too – ask the people who have done it before when it was called 'Fifteen-by-Five')

Members of the audience will have score sheets, and will secretly and independently award a score for quality of images, quality of narrative, originality, audibility, entertainment value and anything else that comes to mind. Then we will add up the scores and award a small but desirable prize and lots of kudos.

If there is time at the end, there will be a chance for ‘how did you do that?’ questions.

How to book a place:

Send an e-mail to the Competition Secretary with your proposed title and make sure you get a confirmation in return. Don’t leave it too late – we are limited by time to about a dozen places.

How to enter your images:

Format images just like Projected Image
1400 px wide by 1050 px high maximum, and set to 72 ppi
Use .jpg if possible (.tif works, but more s.l.o.w.l.y).
The competition software now supports colour profiles - Adobe 1998 or sRGB if specified or if no profile is specified, sRGB will be assumed.

Submit on a CD or a USB memory stick, suitably labelled
OR
Send to digicomp@maidenhead.cc
AND
Try not to leave it till 'on the night' as it makes life difficult.

Include 'Short Story' in the header if it is on e-mail;

Put your title and name in the text of the e-mail or write it on the CD;

Put your 15 images into a sub/directory and name them so they will sort alphabetically, so, for example:

Prevari Cator\pv-01.jpg
Prevari Cator\pv-02.jpg
Prevari Cator\pv-03.jpg etc

The directory bit is just to be helpful but the alphabetic sort is really important, as otherwise your talk may be unexpectedly devious.

Full names are best for directories as there is then no ‘on-the-fly’ thinking involved when live on the night!
