After a suggestion by Rod, I decided upon Hedsor for a local walk of modest length.

Buoyed by a positive forecast from the Met Office the day before - sunny and a max of 10 celsius, I packed my gear.

During the day the sun did make some appearances, but if the temperature did ever reach ten degrees then it can only have been for a few minutes.

I parked in Cookham and crossed the road bridge, turning right just north of it. You then cross a field, a small footbridge, pass a very nice new mansion type property (STILL under construction), cross a road, and head up a private road which is also the footpath.

St Nicholas Church looms on the right and a small gate allows access up a steep field. I took this and looked around the grounds of the Church. Next to the Church is Hedsor Priory.

I then walked down the hill and rejoined the footpath, heading north west towards Hedsor village. To both sides is fenced off private land. Even the leaves can't escape.

Leaf in Captivity?

At the top of the hill I turned right into Woolman's Wood, which marked itself as 'Walkers Welcome'. They may be welcome, but it has to be said that on a cool but fine November afternoon, there weren't that many of them. Apologies for the flare in this shot, it was only ever taken to demonstrate the type of woodland on offer and the undulating nature of the local countryside. Whilst on apologies, I'd probably better apologise for the joke at the end!

After a circuit of the wood I returned back down the hill, then back up to the Church (the sun had come out), then back to the car and home. The walk had been local, but through choice it was neither short, nor brief.

Still, I had a small collection of images for a web page and extremely muddy boots.

Incidentally, the twiki name for this web walk is Hedsor Woolman - is this a shepherd with a hangover? !!!
