Kew Gardens - Winter 2004/05

The Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a world leader in plant conservation. By way of a bonus, it is also a good place to take a camera and is only a short trip down the M4.

Parking is free on a Sunday on most of he roads south of the gardens (including the Kew Road itself). Entry is about £10 but for around £35 you can gain unlimited annual entry. My latest visit took no more than 30 mins each way and a small selection the shots I took are shown here. I visited on Sunday 27 February. As a managed 'garden' it would rate fairly low on Rod's muddiness rating. One of the elements was a little unpleasant, though. As this site is designed for 'family' viewing I will restrict my comments on the weather to the suggestion that it was 'distinctly chilly'.

There is no sharpening, little cropping and very little adjustment to colour temperature (all shots here were taken on a digital camera).

Since creating this page, I have visited Kew on a number of occassions, always on a Sunday. I may have been unlucky, but there seemed to be fewer tame robins about the place. And the lake has been emptied, dredged and redesigned. It is now even more pleasant to look at, but, sadly, the promised return of the wildlife has yet to happen. Spring 2007 will hopefully mark the return of numerous tame and phtogenic birds to the lake. In the meantime, there is plenty to point your lens at, elsewhere in the Gardens.

Please find a few images of Kew below, and a link to a new page.
