North Yorkshire Moors Railway
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway boasts that it is the country’s most popular heritage railway. It is easy to see why. It winds its way from Pickering in the south to Grosmont in the north, via Levisham, Newton Dale Halt and Goathland (a.k.a. Aidensfield).
As well as the Heartbeat Country link (the series has being going on so long, Duran Duran will appear on the soundtrack soon), Goathland also took the guise as Hogsmeade in Harry Potter and Philosopher’s Stone.
Like Whitby (also a regular in Heartbeat), Goathland is popular with tourists and bikers. Sadly, no commercial stone is left unturned. All the TV landmarks are trying to sell you something, only the sheep seem oblivious. Still, if it keeps keeps the tourists happy and away from other parts of the Moors…….
