Royal Windsor Observation Wheel

On Friday 7th July 2006 I had the privilege of joining work colleagues, Royal Borough Councillors, and many other invited guests, in celebrating the opening of the Royal Windsor Observation Wheel.

Located on the banks of the Thames, in the immaculately presented grounds of Alexandra Gardens, this spectacular landmark rises 55 metres (180 feet - it seems a great deal higher) into the air.

There was a superb view of the Castle, basking in late evening sunshine. The Thames can be seen meandering gently towards Staines and beyond. Slough is prominent, as is the construction work at King Edward Court. Much further away, the distinctive arch of the new Wembley Stadium can be glimpsed.

The cost seems very reasonable at £6 for 20 minutes, and there are discounts for Advantage Card holders.

I do wonder how many images we will see in the 06/07 season that somehow feature the Wheel.

For a much more informed article, why not visit the official website at http://www.royalwindsorwheel.com

The Wheel afforded great views of the Castle.

The ubiquitous Pimms. It can be purchased at the bar and there is a picture somewhere within these striking red umbrellas.

Seeking a better view of the Wheel, it was difficult to resist a snap of the rowing boats at rest.
