MCC trip to the Print Study Room in V&A museum
Ok, there were only 4 of us (Rod Bird, Anita Woodcock, Chris Roper and Masha Ershova), but it still counts as a club trip, doesn't it?
The whole idea of the trip was to look at the earliest photographs (V&A is a stupendous resource for that) and to learn about the history of Photography in the process.
The staff prepared all the materials we had requested: Education Boxes on printing processes, which contained samples of early prints (salt, albumen, gelatine-silver, platinum, cyanotype, carbon, Daguerreotype, photogravure, etc.) plus several boxes on individual processes, including autochrome, the earliest colour prints on glass plates – not to forget a big box of images from Scott’s expedition!
The museum is a mine of information on photography in general, and individual artists in particular, and if you ever want to see the originals, just go there. If you’re after something or someone in particular, I would suggest getting in touch with Print Study Room and request it beforehand.
