Spring Wild Flowers, Berkshire.
1st. & 2nd. May 2010
Common Dog-Violet (Viola riviniana)
MCC Development Programme.
As part of the MCC development programm Joe Humm led two morning walks looking for and photographing wild flowers and general woodland scenes. Six members attended the first day, a pleasant spring morning with sunny periods. Five dedicated hardy photographers who endured a morning of continuous rain and general gloomy conditions attended the second day. Both days after a short walk beside and over the river Pang, which was the inspiration for the book "Wind in the Willows" but no sign of Ratty. We came to "Park Wood" where we took a circular route photographing various wild flowers including the " Early Purple Orchid. We returned via " Hogmoor Copse" where we saw "Common Twayblade" and " Common Spotted Orchid" but these were not yet in flower. But we did photograph "Ramson" the wild garlic as there were a number of nice photogenic clumps but the best clump had been spoilt on the second day by a large tree branch that had fallen overnight also many of the flowers had been spoilt throughout the walk since the first day by heavy rain.
